My name is Nzinga (pronounced in-ZING-uh) and I'm a 6 year vegan. My mother raised me in a vegetarian home so my love for plant-based food started early. I ate fish and chicken for a few years in college and decided to go fully vegan in 2015.
Since that transition I've blogged on the subject for HuffPost, spoke at and attended vegan conferences around the word, joined the staff of Vegan Outreach and eventually Farm Sanctuary, and created my @veganzinga IG community.
I was drawn to veganism from my Vipassana meditation. The practice asks for five agreements, one of which forbids killing and financially supporting the act of killing. Since I knew the harm associated with animal agriculture, I decided to go fully vegan.
I continue to practice meditation and serve on the board of New York Insight, a meditation center that celebrates diversity in all forms.
When I'm not meditating or eating vegan food, I'm brushing up on real estate investing, walking aimlessly through the streets of Brooklyn, or spending time with family and friends.
