I'd love to keep in touch!
We all have a story of how we went vegan. Here's mine!
I attended my second Vipassana meditation retreat in the spring of 2016. On the retreat you're silent for 10 days straight and participate in hours and hours of daily meditation, but you also agree to 5 precepts (they're like rules).
One of those precepts is no killing, which means I can't kill but I also can't financially support other people killing. I was vegetarian at the time, but since I knew all the death involved in the egg and dairy industries, I knew I had to be vegan to stay in line with my practice.
I had a rocky start, but the official launch to my vegan commitment was Thanksgiving of that year. I had a fully vegan spread and announced to my family I was making the switch. I appreciate their continued support and haven't looked back since.
My drive to go (and stay) vegan was rooted in doing no harm. I'm not innately an animal person, but you don't need to love animals to not want to kill them. If I can live a healthy, happy life without killing other beings, sign me up.
